Ubtan is a paste usually made with a mixture of turmeric, gram flour and is fortified with certain other beautifying ingredients. It is very common in India to apply this paste to bride-to-be as a part of a ritual. The ubtan makes the skin brighter and helps the bride to glow radiantly. This is a simple recipe which can be made at home and stored for months. Ubtan massage once or twice a week keeps the skin glowing and also removes dark pigments, scars and blemishes. Ubtan can be made in different styles with various ingredients. Few of the best ubtan recipes are provided for a fairer and brighter skin:

1. Basic ubtan recipe for face and body:

  • 4-5 tbsp gram flour
  • 1 tbsp almond oil
  • 1/2 tbsp raw turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp fenugreek powder
  • Milk to form a smooth pasteuptan

Mix all the ingredients to form a smooth paste. Apply this paste over the skin. Gently massage for 5 minutes and wash with plain water. Repeat twice a week for flawless bright skin.

2. Sandalwood ubtan to remove tan:

  • 2 tbsp sandalwood powder
  • 4 tbsp gram flour
  • 1/2 tbsp turmeric
  • 2 tbsp raw milk
  • Rose water to make a smooth pastesandal ubtan

Mix all the ingredients to form a smooth consistency. Apply over the skin and massage gently. Leave for 5-10 minutes or until it dries off. Wash with plain water. This ubtan soothes the skin, heals sun damage and makes the skin ultra soft. Your skin glows radiantly if used twice a week.

3. Ubtan for pigmentation removal:

  • 4 tbsp fine bread crumbs
  • 2 tbsp gram flour
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp potato juice
  • 1/2 tbsp turmeric
  • Raw milk, enough to make a smooth pasteubtan bread crumbs

Mix all the ingredients by adding a little raw milk to make a smooth paste. Apply this over clean face and neck. Massage gently and leave for about 20 minutes or till the paste gets dried off. Rub gently with moist hands and rinse rinse with water until it is completely removed. Repeat twice a week to remove the pigmentation and make the skin glowing.

4. Highly nourishing ubtan:

  • Hand full of almonds
  • 1/4th cup flax seeds
  • 1/4th cup rice
  • 1/4th cup masoor dal(red gram)
  • 1/4th cup oats
  • 1/4th cup dried orange peel powder
  • 1/4th cup gram flour
  • 1 tbsp turmeric
  • 2 tbsp crushed saffronubtan nourishing

Grind the almonds, flax seeds, rice, masoor dal and oats separately, into a fine powder. Mix all the powdered ingredients, orange peel powder, gram flour, saffron and turmeric. Store this ubtan recipe in a small air tight jar to use whenever you need. Take 2-3 tbsp of the ubtan into a small bowl.Add rose water or milk to make into a smooth paste. Apply this over the skin and gent,y massage. Leave until it dries. Rinse with plain water.
