Tips To Overcome Bad Breath

Bad Breath, medically known as Halitosis is often a result of both external as well as internal factors. It may due to non-hygiene or due to some other reasons such as indigestion etc. Due to non-hygiene, the food accumulated between the teeth decays and bacteria develops over time. As a result you may suffer bad breath along with tooth problems.Indigestion, stomach or intestinal disturbances also may cause foul smell in the breath. Sinus, throat infections, alcohol, liver problems, gastritis and acid reflex are also causes of bad breath. Proper mouth care and keeping the bowel functions smooth is a good idea to prevent bad breath. There are certain tips to overcome bad breath.

There are certain home remedies to control bad breath. You may keep this problem at bay and be confident if you can practice the below remedies:-

  • 1) Avoid Coffee and Alcohol:- Coffee, Alcohol and Smoking are those that causes bad breath in majority of people. Avoiding coffee, alcohol and smoking is a good thing to stop bad breath.

  • 2) Diet and water:- Sometimes empty stomach may also cause bad breath. So have a good diet at regular intervals and also drink more water.

  • 3) Apple, Carrot:- Munching a piece of apple, carrot , cucumber or any crispy fruit between meals produces more and fresh saliva which eliminates bacteria. This will check bad breath to a great extent.

  • 4) Cilantro:- In fact all the greens such as parsley, cilantro, mint , dill etc., work efficiently in preventing bad breath. Add more of them to your foods or enjoy a green salad.

  • 5) Brush:- Brush at least twice a day and after every meals if possible. Scrape the tongue gently after brushing. Don’t forget to keep a tooth brush and tooth paste available to use whenever you need.
  • 6) Gargle:-Make it a habit to gargle or rinse your mouth after every meals. Gargling washes away all the the accumulated food between the teeth and prevents formation of bacteria.
  • 7) Basil:- Chew Basil leaves or Peppermint leaves every time you eat some thing. Basil leaves have anti bacterial characteristics and are very powerful in killing bacteria. You can also have an infusion of basil leaves. Just add some leaves to one cup of water, Boil for 5 minutes and drink it warm.

  • 8) Mouth washes:- Some mouth washes contain alcohol which can gradually worsen the problem. They give you fresh feel for some time but as a fact they will aggravate the oral health. Choose carefully.

  • 9) Fennel or Cloves:- Fennel seeds or Cloves are a great choice which can stop bad breath and also gives you a good oral health. Chew a little of them after meals and swallow the juices. Cloves have anti bacterial properties which kills the bacteria in the mouth and stomach.

  • 10) Sunflower seeds:- Chewing some sunflower seeds helps you to prevent bad breath. Chew a little sunflower seeds whenever you have bad breathe and drink a glass of water.

  • 11) Apple Cider:- Mix one tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar in half cup of warm water and drink after meals. This aids in digestion, cleans the stomach and stops bad breath. You can also use this solution as a mouth wash.

  • 12) Guava:- Chewing raw guava or tender guava leaves works greatly in fighting bad breath instantly. It is an age old remedy and is very effective due to its malic, phosphoric and oxalic acids. Chewing guava leaves also stops gum bleeding. A moth wash may be prepared at home using guava leaves. Take a some tender guava leaves and wash thoroughly. Boil one cup of water in a pan and add the leaves to it. Simmer and let it boil for 15-20 minutes. Let it cool. This solution can be  used as a mouth wash.

  • 13) Tea tree or Peppermint Oil:- Add a drop of tea tree oil or peppermint oil to your tooth paste before brushing. Tea tree oil is an antiseptic and an age old remedy for treating bad breath. It kills bacteria which cannot even be killed by other antibiotics.

  • 14) Chewing Gum:- Dry mouth is also a major cause for causing bad breath, which can be overcome by chewing sugarless gums. Chewing sugarless gum will produce more watery saliva in the mouth and cures dry mouth problems. Bad breath will be controlled to a great extent.
  • 16) Lemon:- The citric acid in the lemon juice kills all the bacteria in the mouth and stomach and also aids in digestion. Add one tbsp lemon juice to warm water and drink twice a day.

  • 17) Cinnamon:- Cinnamon is a powerful antibiotic which helps in preventing bad breath. Chew a small bark of cinnamon whenever needed. Cinnamon infusion can also work greatly. Add a little piece of cinnamon stick to one cup of water. Boil for 10 minutes, strain and drink this water. It kills all the bacteria and germs and also cleanses the stomach. Having this solution once a day will keep your breath fresh all day long.
