When your hair doesn’t get enough nourishment or lacks moisture, you get split ends. Split ends occur when hair follicles become dry, brittle, and lose their protective outer layer. The condition is medically called trichoptilosis and can be treated by taking good care.
Causes of Split ends:
Some of the known causes of split ends are:
Excessive washing
Harsh combing
Sun exposure
Harsh shampoos
Blow drying
Straightening
Dyes and bleaches
Not taking proper care of your hair
Natural Home remedies for split ends:
Trimming split ends is effective. But it is not the only solution for getting rid of split ends at home. By taking good care of your hair at home naturally, you can prevent and get rid of the split ends.
Diet:
For split end treatment, go for a diet rich in nutrients like protein, brown rice, lentils, sunflower seeds, walnuts, omega 3 fatty acid, vitamin A and C and selenium. Foods rich in folic acid include leafy vegetables, oranges, soybeans and wheat.
Consider having a regular hair trim for every six to eight weeks to keep the ends of your hair healthy. In fact if you are aiming to grow longer and healthier hair, it’s advised that you get regular trims.
Shampoo:
Unless you have super oily hair, do not shampoo more often. Go for once or twice a week cleansing hair schedule to prevent drying out of your hair. Always use a moisturizing shampoo to prevent dryness which can trigger split ends.
Wash hair after swimming or exercising. The salt in sweat and chlorine in the pool is harmful for hair.
Hair Oil:
Oil hair regularly to prevent split ends and hair damage. Oiling your hair can keep the hair nourished and moisturized. Consider a hot oil massage before shampooing your hair.
Protect from sun:
Sun’s heat can damage the hair and cause split ends. Protect hair from sun using a scarf and a heat protectant sprays or spf hair sprays.
Combs and brushes:
Use soft combs or hair brushes to prevent hair damage. Brush hair very gently. Never brush wet hair.
Deep conditioning:
Consider oil massage before shampooing your hair. Use a deep conditioner after shampooing, to keep hair moisturized. Use serums to prevent damage from bad weathers and hot sun.
Choosing the ideal sunglasses for your face shape is easy if you know which one suits for your face shape. There are frames that flaunt your killer features, and there are frames that … don’t. Just like the perfect pair of jeans, the right sunglasses play up your best features.
A general rule is- Choose styles that are the opposite of your face shape. For instance, if you have a square-shaped face, opt for round frames to create curves and soften your look.
Lets find whats best for you:
1. Square Face Shape:
Prominent forehead and a strong jawline characterize your distinctive look. This makes you the perfect face for a few different sunglasses. Try curvier frames like round, oval, cat eye, butterfly and semi-rimless to accentuate your eyes and playfully balance a striking jawline.
2. Oval Face Shape:
You are considered to be most lucky woman. You can choose just any sunglasses as every shape can perfectly flaunt your features. Rectangular frames are best of all for you. The latest cat-eye designs are a definitely a best and trendy accessory for those with oval faces. If you have a small, oval-shaped face, choose small frame sizes that are in proportion with your face.
3. Round Face Shape:
The width and height of your face is roughly equal and you have soft, contoured, feminine features. Selecting frames that are the opposite of your face shape adds definition. Rectangle and square-shaped sunglasses add angles to a round face, while wide frames help balance the fullness of face. you can also try frames with contrasting colors or ones with a cat-eye shape to add a visual lift to your round face. Stay away from frames that are curvy or round, which will add too much curve to a full face.
4. Long Face Shape:
The right frames will should shorten and soften the face to balance the length. Frames with contrasting colors or embellishment at the temples, as well as wrap-around frames, add width to a long face. Wide frames, such as over sized round sunglasses, create the illusion of having a shorter and wider face. Avoid narrow or small frames—they only emphasize length.
5. Heart Face Shape:
Heart shape faces are usually characterized with a wide forehead, high cheekbones, and a narrow jawline or pointed chin. The goal with sunglasses is to broaden the appearance of the jawline and minimize the width of forehead. Aviators are a chic choice for those with heart-shaped faces. Stylists recommend light-colored frames, frames with thin temples, or frames with exaggerated bottoms for heart shape face.

Coffee grounds can be used to scrub away dead skin to reveal the new, healthy skin underneath, whereas chemical exfoliates remove skin cells with enzymes or acidic properties. This is a great natural beauty recipe that keeps Amy’s skin super glowing.

Amy keeps her make-up as minimal as possible. She usually uses a tinted moisturizer rather than a heavy foundation base. She prefer cream blushes instead of powder ones. She finishes her makeup with a waterproof mascara, kohl and a soft lip color.

— “I like to keep it light and I try to eat before 7:00 pm. If I feel hungry in between meals I munch a few almonds and bananas,” Amy says, “Sunday is a pig out day for me and I love to eat too much of anything I love..! ”
“My tummy stays relatively flat and firm without much effort. I think that’s to do with horse riding from a very young age, and the posture you have to always maintain” she says.

Whiteheads are a form of acne that typically appears on the skin as small, round, white bumps. This type of acne is caused when sebum, dirt and dead skin cells clog the pore area and block the pore opening. People with excess sebum production usually have this problem. Pollution, genetic factors, oily food can trigger these whiteheads. Most of the hair follicles on your body produce sebum, so it is possible to get whiteheads on other areas of your skin besides your face.
There are benzoyl peroxide creams and gels such as Benzac AC available in medical shops, which works better to remove and control these whiteheads. Here are a few most effective home remedies to remove whiteheads:
Home Remedies To Treat Whiteheads:
1. Facial Steam:
Facial steam is very effective in opening the pores and removing the dirt and bacteria that have clogged in the pores.
Fill a pan with hot water and place your face over the pan while covering with a large towel over your head so that the steam do not escape. Allow your face into the steam for 15-20 minutes. You can also use a clean towel soaked in hot water instead. Wring out the excess water and place the towel over the face. Dip the towel again in hot water and repeat for 15 minutes.
Once the pores are open, use a Salicylic acid face wash( Ranbaxy Minozs Foaming Face Wash, Amazon.in) to deep clean the pores and remove all the dirt and bacteria trapped into the pores. Rinse your face with cold water for 1-2 minutes to close the pores.
2. Baking Soda:
Exfoliation is the key for clean skin. Baking soda maintains the pH balance of the skin and also works as a gentle exfoliate. Mix one tbsp of baking soda with a little water and gently rub the paste over the skin for few seconds to remove the whiteheads. Repeat twice a week. It removes the dead skin cells and also deep cleanses the skin which is essential for controlling acne.
3. Oatmeal, Sugar Scrub:
Take half cup of oatmeal and half cup of sugar and run in mixer to form a coarse powder. Store this powder and use as a scrub. Take 2 tbsp of the scrub and mix with one tbsp of lemon juice or a little water. Rub this paste over the affected areas of skin for 5 minutes gently. Wash with cold water. Repeat 2-3 times a week for good results.
4. Apple Cider Vinegar:
Apple Cider Vinegar is a great astringent. It removes excess oil and it also has great anti-bacterial properties. Mix one tbsp of vinegar with one tbsp of water and apply this solution over the face using a cotton ball. Leave for 10 minutes and rinse with plain water. Apple Cider Vinegar can also be used in face packs.
5. Cinnamon Face-pack:
Cinnamon has skin regenerating properties. The antimicrobial properties of cinnamon removes the dead cells and bacteria and controls acne. It improves blood circulation and makes the skin very healthy. Cinnamon powder can be used as a scrub or as face pack.

Koreans are well known for their smooth and radiant skin and occupy a prominent place in the beauty world. Go Hyung-Jung is a Korean actress & model who even in her 40s has the most luminous, flattering & flawless skin. The glow that her skin reflects, envy even the teens.
She published her skincare secrets in a “beauty documentary” titled “Go Hyun-Jung’s Texture” in 2011, the same year she turned 40. The book (a bestseller that sold out in just two days of its launch), covers Go’s beauty philosophy as well as her tips for leading a healthy lifestyle.
It is known that Korean women use up to 17 products in a day, for their skin care and also spend hours on skin care. In the past, Korean women made their own skincare products including everything from scrubs, lotions, creams, and oils. Ground mung beans were made into soap by blending the powder with water and lotions were made from the juice of plants.
Some of the beauty philosophies from Hyun-Jungs beauty secrets are brought to you by IBT:
1. Treat Your Skin from the Inside Out:
If you have a problem skin, maintain a food diary and observe the effect different foods have on your skin.
Avoid salty and spicy foods to keep skin clear. Prefer diet with plain / bland food to re-calibrate skin from the inside.
Hyun-Jung does not follow the 8 glass water a day rule. Instead she drinks good amount of water whenever she feels thirst.
Her favorite beauty foods are raw salads, fresh apple, blueberry, carrot juice, honey.
She takes grapefruit tea which suppresses her appetite and keeps her energetic.
She takes organic Vitamin B and C.
2. Clean Skin is Clear Skin:
Wash your hands before applying makeup or skincare.
Avoid touching your face except when you clean or apply skincare.
To wash your face, mix foaming cleanser with warm water and work up a rich foam.
It takes her 15 minutes to cleanse her face.
To treat acne and pimples naturally, wash affected areas with salt and lukewarm water solution. It sanitizes the area and prevents the breakouts from getting worse.
3. Skincare Commandments by Go Hyun-Jung:
According to Go, the direction of application is as important as the skincare product you use. She applies skincare (Eg. serums, toner) from the center of the face to outwards.
A most important secret is to use more skincare serums at a time. Koreans use up to 5 serums at a time.
For Koreans, serums are more important and they don’t stress much on moisturizers or creams.
For neck cream, she starts from beside the jawline down to the decolletage in an outward ‘C shape’ motion.
Apply skincare products once it is warmed up in your hands, and press both palms onto your face to improve absorption of all the skincare layers.
Go discards skincare after 2 months of use for hygiene reasons – a steep contrast to the 12 months we’re usually told by other beauty experts.
Apply hand cream up to the elbows, and neck cream all the way down to your decolletage.
Never rush while applying skincare. It takes Go 20 minutes to apply body lotion, covering each bit of skin moisturized.
Apply toner with your hands instead of cotton pads to reduce redness.
She has a two step facial mask routine, starting with a cleansing mask followed by a nourishing mask.
4. Makeup Philosophy:
Go prefers using her fingers to apply foundation. Unless the sponge is brand new or the brush is fresh and clean, she avoids using them for hygiene reasons.
Use Snail creams to regenerate the skin and for good complexion.
Brows: Her philosophy on makeup is centered on beautifully shaped brows. She spends an hour a month to carefully get her brow shape done. It keeps her skin around the eye beautiful and defined.
Primer: Before applying base makeup, she applies a generous amount of hydrating cream to avoid looking tired by the afternoon.
Foundation: The secret to natural looking skin is not to apply foundation all over the face. She applies foundation only on the shadows of the face (under the eyes, under the cheek) and keeps the high points of the face sheer. Avoid foundation around the nose to prevent caking.
Lips: Her typical lip routine starts with BB cream & lip balm in the morning, followed by lip gloss in the afternoon and lipstick/liner in the evening.
Sunscreen: Apply a matte sunscreen on your forehead and nose, and a dewy formula on cheeks and other dry areas.
Contouring: Using 2 different shades of foundation, a sheer application on the high points of the face, and using both matte/dewy formulas not only contours the face but also creates natural highlights without the need for a separate highlighter.
Eyes: For natural looking eyes, use only eyeliner and mascara, and matte powder under the eyes to prevent smudging.
Blush: She doesn’t apply blush!
5. The Bathroom is Her Sanctuary
Go spends more time in her bathroom than any other room in her house, including daily home spas with drops of essential oil.
In addition to that, she soaks her hands and feet in warm water with half teaspoon of salt to relax and relieve tired hands and feet.
She also likes to use grapefruit oil to massage her calves.
Drink a cup of tea or water before having a bath to prevent dehydration due to bathing.
To reduce puffiness in the face, soak a face towel in ice water, remove excess water and cover your face with it for few minutes.
She applies body oil starting from the legs and moves upwards.
As for hair, she finishes off with a cold water rinse, lets her hair dry naturally if she’s staying indoors.
She ties her hair back in different positions to prevent hair loss in concentrated areas.
6. Include Facial Stretching in Your Exercise Routine
Go’s exercise routine not only involves stretching her body but also her facial muscles.
The most effective way to do facial stretching is to coordinate it with your breathing.
Expand your facial muscles & jaw on the exhale. Then when inhaling, contract all facial muscles including your eyes, nose and cheeks.
Although she believes that laughter is the best exercise for the face, she also exercises her lip and cheek muscles by pronouncing “Ma Me Mi Mo Mu” 10 times – much like the phrase used in singing exercises. This is apparently common practice among most Korean actors.
Korean Food:
Kimchi, a fermented cabbage, roasted barley tea, fermented rice wine are the beauty foods for Koreans.
IBT has been receiving requests over few days for home remedies to whiten teeth. We bring to you a few tips to whiten teeth naturally at home.
The enamel and dentin of our teeth plays the biggest role in color. Certain food and drinks will directly stain the enamel. But over time the two biggest culprits are the nasty food and drink that actually break down the enamel, and weakening enamel as we age. As the enamel breaks down, it reveals the yellow dentin underneath.
Many whitening gels, toothpastes and whitening strips are available in the market to remove the stains and whiten the teeth.
Apart from seeing a dentist, here are a few tricks you can do at home for whitening your teeth-
6 Tips To Whiten Teeth At Home:
1. Prepare your own stain blasting formula:
Mix 3 tbsp of baking soda with 2 tbsp of hydrogen peroxide. Use this as a toothpaste. Brush very gently since the baking soda is abrasive. Take care to use hydrogen peroxide which is 3% or less. You can also use lemon juice instead of hydrogen peroxide.
2. Straws are the biggest secret:
Use straws to drink coffee or tea, since they tend to stain the teeth. Always use mouthwash or rinse with plain water or brush if possible, immediately after having dark liquids like coffee, tea or other beverages.
3. Apples:
Eat crunchy fruits or veggies such as apples, carrots, cucumbers and guavas. They can clean your teeth just like your toothbrush.
4. Strawberry, salt and baking soda scrub:
Mash 1-2 strawberries into a pulp. Add a pinch of salt and half tbsp baking soda. Gently scrub your teeth with this mixture. The malic acid present in the berries and the abrasive nature of the scrub can remove the stains on the surface of the teeth. Use this scrub at least twice a week.
5. Coconut oil:
Applying a little coconut oil on the teeth daily in the morning for 5-10 minutes and brushing after that can remove the stains and make them whiter.
6. Banana or orange peel:
Gently rub a banana peel or an orange peel on your teeth for 2-3 minutes daily. The minerals in these peels can keep your teeth shinier.
It have become a routine to shave legs even before you start your bath. But it is better to start shaving after spending in lukewarm shower for 10-15 minutes. This can soften and open up the hair follicles and makes it easier to remove. But never spend too much of time in shower before you start shaving. This causes wrinkles or swelling on the skin.
2. Do it as a first thing in the morning:
It is not ideal to shave your legs as soon as you wake up in the morning. As you sleep the whole night, the skin on the legs slightly swells and hair follicles become tighter. It is always better to shave at nights.
3. Using bar soap instead of shaving foam:
You often use bar soap to create lubrication while you shave, which is an absolute no. Or you tend to shave on your dry legs which is really wrong. Always use a shaving foam or a hair conditioner on your legs to glide the razor smoothly. This avoids cuts and nicks.
4. Using single blade disposable razor:
It is not a good thing to use single blade razor as it drags more on the skin. Always use a four or five blade razor for smoothest results without irritating the skin.
5. Shaving up first before shaving down:
Always start shaving downwards on your legs in the direction of hair growth. Wash with lukewarm water. Then reapply the gel or foam and shave upwards. If your skin is very sensitive, avoid shaving in upward direction.
6. Not preventing or treating razor burn:
Close shave can result in ingrown hairs. Neglecting the bumps can lead to long term scars o the skin. Exfoliate the legs with a body scrub once a week to remove the dead skin cells, which can prevent or remove the ingrown hairs and bumps. Treat the legs with plenty of moisturizer.
7. Not replacing the razor too often:
It is important to change the razor blade too often. Old blades are ineffective and also cause more bumps and cause more ingrown hairs. This can trap bacteria and cause skin infections.
